    175 Series Keynote: “The 20th Century Limited.” 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

    Join us for our keynote presentation in the 175 Series as documentary filmmaker, Rich Luckin, takes you onboard one of America’s most luxurious passenger trains, the New York Central’s 20th Century Limited. With red carpet service and champagne, this train was the way for celebrities and business tycoons to travel between New York and Chicago, 1902-1967. We welcome you to join us as we explore the train known as “Tiffany’s on rails.” 

    About the Speaker: 
    Rich Luckin is an author and documentary filmmaker whose award-winning programs about American passenger trains have aired on PBS stations nationwide. Luckin has been honored with three Regional Emmy nominations and 44 national and local video awards. He is also the author of Dining on Rails: An Encyclopedia of Railroad China

    Join us for a presentation highlighting the history of an unassuming piece of rolling stock: refrigerator cars. Now common place, these cars revolutionized the way we live and eat!

    Steve Barton is a long-time volunteer at the museum and a member of the Friends of the NNYCRRM organization.

    175 Series: 175 Years of Railroads in Elkhart 2:00 PM

    Join Steve Barton and Steve Dinehart as they take you back in time to experience the 175-year history of rail in Elkhart and tour the 1870s locomotive shops through eye-witness accounts and never-before-seen negatives.

    About the Speakers: 
    Steve Barton is a long-time volunteer at the museum and a member of the Friends of the NNYCRRM organization. Steve Dinehart's father worked in the locomotive yards in Elkhart and he is the model train curator at the NNYCRRM.

    175 Series: Elkhart’s Rail Accidents 2:00 PM

    Join us for a presentation that will explore how rail accidents and safety shaped the town of Elkhart, its people, and the railroads themselves: the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern, New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern. We will also look to the future of safety and emergency response, highlighting Elkhart’s first responders and city planning.

    About the Speaker:

    Andrew Medford is Director of Transportation Safety at Lippert Components. Medford was born and raised in the Elkhart area and is a HO scale model railroader with 21 years of transportation experience.
